Injector: how loud your master will really play on each platform

Rob Richards
The AMIE Injector page: an eight-track playlist with loudness and true peak per track, platform chips for Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TIDAL, Amazon Music and SoundCloud, and a playback levels table.

You master a song to sound a certain way. Then a streaming platform measures it and moves the fader, and what the listener hears is your master at a level you did not choose. Loud masters get turned down. Quiet ones may get turned up, or may not, depending on the service and the headroom. Injector shows you all of this before release, track by track.

Six platforms, their real rules

Add your tracks to the playlist and pick a platform: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TIDAL, Amazon Music or SoundCloud. Each one's loudness target and its particular habits are built in, taken from the platform's own published guidance and re-checked against it as the platforms change their rules. Spotify's Normal, Loud and Quiet presets are there, so is Apple's attenuate-only behaviour, and so is the fact that YouTube does not let listeners switch normalization off.

The two numbers that matter

For every track, the Playback levels table shows the gain the platform will apply and the true peak of the result. A flag appears when the platform will do something more than a simple level change: engage a limiter, clamp a boost because there is no headroom, or protect the peaks. That flag is the penalty you were warned about and could never quite see.

Switch on Album mode and the gain is anchored to the loudest track, so the album keeps its internal balance exactly as you sequenced it, the same way the platforms treat an album play.

Hear it, do not just read it

Press play and Injector plays the track at the computed gain, with gapless transitions between songs, so you can hear the whole release the way a subscriber will. Combined with the codec preview, that is the closest you can get to the listener's experience without uploading.
